Letters and Figures Alive is two-year-long project for five schools from Finland, Turkey, Spain, Italy and Poland as a coordinator. The main priority of the project is to improve students basic skills; reading , writing and numeracy in order to solve problems and develop their higher-ordered thinking skills. In the project teachers plan to arrange activities that will develop the combination between basic skills and 21st century skills. Motivating context, usage of student-friendly tools and incorporating technology in a meaningful way in the learning process will be crucial features of the project. Teachers will give the students the frames of different activities and let them plan the steps, do the tasks and publish the outcome.
During the project lots of different activities are planned. Book Clubs will be set in every school. Students will share their reading experiences in different ways. Students will have creative writing workshops. Books will be read for an audiance. There will be drama workshops and the students will prepare a preformance from a selected book. There will be events where books and reading experiences can be shared . The relationship between Mathematics and Literature will be carried out by creations of limerics, epigrams, haiku and riddles etc. Mathematic verbal problems will be animated and solved by students. Students will also do coding tasks related to problem solving. At the end of the project there will be the Mathematic Olympic Games – the gamifigated summary of the project. Students will create the competition tasks by themselves.
